Addiction Counseling
From the moment you wake up, drugs or alcohol are on your mind.
The craving hits you out of nowhere. No matter how hard you try to get it out of your mind, it comes back with a vengeance. You do everything you can to distract yourself but eventually you give in. With drinking comes the guilt, the shame, and the secrets. You close the blinds and hide from your family. You hide from your friends. You hide from yourself. You hide from the world.
Once you start, you can’t stop.
You tell yourself it will be different this time. This time you will be able to control yourself. You wish you could be a social user like everyone else. You wonder how other people can drink without blacking out, making a fool of themselves, or missing work the next day. All you want in life is to be a “normal” drinker.
You wish you did not need to use to feel “normal” or “good.”
You can’t remember a time when things were different. You take a few drinks at work, hoping that no one will notice, in order to curb the cravings and delay the withdrawal symptoms. You try to confide in your friends and family, but they don’t understand. You worry they will judge you. You feel alone in your pain.
In therapy, we identify the internal and external triggers or situations that may lead to use.
We will discover the things we can change in your environment for you to stay sober. Together, we will develop a relapse prevention plan and understand what led you to use drugs or alcohol to fix feelings and escape reality. Through the support, accountability and use of therapeutic tools, therapy can help can guide you towards the path of recovery.
We believe there is not a “one size fits all” approach to recovery.
We will work together to find the treatment that is best for you. Therapy approaches involve Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and may be utilized in conjunction with 12 step (ex. Alcoholics Anonymous) or other community-based programs. You are not required to participate in any of these programs to engage in therapy at Embodied Wellness, PLLC.
