Who is a Good Fit for EMDR Intensives?

There are many factors that contribute to being a good fit for EMDR intensives. Below are common reasons people consider intensive therapy.

  • You’re super busy!: Sometimes it’s not possible to fit a weekly online therapy appointment in your busy schedule. It can be more effective to commit to a few hours in the morning or afternoon.

  • Cost-effective: It might feel overwhelming to see the upfront cost of an EMDR. When you consider the cost of weekly online therapy over a year, intensives may be less expensive. There can also be cost of delaying your trauma treatment such as missed hours at work, problems in your relationships and feeling down.

  • You want to feel better, faster: Maybe you have been in weekly therapy and want to relieve trauma symptoms faster.

What’s Included in an EMDR Intensive?

EMDR intensives are personalized to YOU and your needs. All intensives will include the following:

Comprehensive Intake

At Embodied Wellness, PLLC, your treatment will start with a comprehensive intake so you are prepared and ready for EMDR. Our EMDR therapists carefully assess your needs through a culturally sensitive and trauma informed lens. We utilize assessments to assess for dissociation and any other symptoms that might interfere with trauma reprocessing.

Consultation with Professionals

Trauma treatment cannot be not done in isolation. We believe that in order to heal from trauma, you often need support from other professionals such as therapists, doctors, body workers, etc. As a part of the intensive process, we will collaborate with the other providers on your team to ensure you are receiving the best care.

Personalized Treatment

EMDR intensives are not a one-size-fits all model. Together through the assessment process and by discussing your goals, we identify the length of EMDR intensive that fits best for you. At Embodied Wellness, PLLC, we offer 90 minute, 3 hour (half day) and 6 hour (full day) intensives. All intensives include short breaks and longer intensives include a break for food and nourishment. Depending on your symptoms and goals, we recommend participating in at least 2-3 full days of EMDR intensives to get your desired results. Your EMDR intensive can be customized based on length and how many you have. We only offer intensives once a week due to the time the body and mind needs to process in between sessions.

Are EMDR Intensives the Right Approach for Your Healing?

We understand that you may have questions or want to learn more about how EMDR therapy works and whether it’s right for you. We’re here to help you feel confident and informed every step of the way as you explore the benefits of this approach to healing.

  • EMDR can be effective whether it’s done in-person or virtually, and the choice depends on your personal preference. At Embodied Wellness, we offer EMDR therapy exclusively through virtual sessions, and many clients find this format just as impactful, especially when they have a quiet, private space.

  • An EMDR intensive is a therapy format where you have multiple sessions in a shorter time frame, like one or two days, instead of the usual 60-minute session each week. The goal is to focus intensely on trauma in a concentrated way, which can help some people make faster and more effective progress. At Embodied Wellness, you can work with your therapist to tailor the length and number of intensive sessions to best suit your needs.

  • Yes! EMDR intensives can be very effective for treating anxiety. By focusing on the root causes of your anxiety, such as past trauma, negative beliefs, or distressing memories, EMDR helps you process and reframe these experiences. During an intensive, the therapist works with you to target specific triggers of anxiety, allowing you to make quicker progress than in regular sessions. Many people find that by addressing these deep-seated issues, they experience lasting relief and a reduction in their overall anxiety. With an intensive format, you can often make significant strides in a shorter amount of time, helping you feel more calm and in control.

  • EMDR intensives vary in length to suit your needs. You can choose a 90-minute intensive for $300, a 3-hour half-day intensive (including as-needed breaks) for $600, or a 6-hour full-day intensive (with a 1-hour lunch break and as-needed breaks) for $1300. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best option based on your goals and how much time you want to dedicate to your healing process.

  • For complex trauma, research shows that EMDR therapy typically requires between 20 to 40 sessions, with treatment lasting around 12 to 18 months. Sessions are usually held one to two times per week, lasting between 60 to 90 minutes each. This is significantly quicker than traditional long-term talk therapy, which can take anywhere from 3 to 10 years to show results. However, the exact number of sessions needed can vary depending on several factors. The complexity of the trauma plays a major role with more complex or long-term traumas requiring more treatment. Additionally, individual responses to therapy differ—some people may benefit from fewer sessions, while others may need more. A person’s current life situation, including stress levels and unstable environments, can affect the number of sessions needed. Lastly, concurrent mental health issues like depression or anxiety may extend the treatment process, as these factors can affect how trauma is processed.

  • Intensive therapy can be worth it if you want to make significant progress quickly. Some people find it helpful if they don’t have the time for regular weekly sessions or if they want to dive deeper into healing.
